Santee Cooper To Allow Something!
The South Carolina Public Service Authority’s (Santee-Cooper) big news at the August 27th board meeting was they were going to start a pilot "net billing" program.
Bad News…
Look at the offer, it is almost like the program that North Carolina put in place 2 years ago and only 80 customers have signed up in the whole state. It is doubtful Santee Cooper will get that many to sign up, even with zero interest financing.
Lonnie Carter, Santee Cooper’s chief executive officer said "We are being more generous than some of the other utilities on this," Carter said. "I think we’ve taken every step we can within reason to encourage this to happen."
With a statement like that, obviously Mr. Carter did not look at the “Database of State Incentives for Renewables & Efficiency” that lists all of the states that have "net metering".
You would also have to believe that he hasn’t read the “Freeing The Grid” report that rates all of the states that have net metering. After looking at these reports, one has to ask, “how can Mr. Carter claim to be so generous to the people of South Carolina”?
A lot of utilities are doing the same thing, creating net billing or net metering rules so bad no one wants to put them into effect. Is this the generous part that Mr. Carter is talking about?
The real question, why is the state owned South Carolina Public Service Authority (Santee Cooper) working so hard to prevent the people from having a net metering program that has been proven to create thousands of new jobs. Create hundreds of new businesses and factories in every state that it is allowed. Think of the multiple sub-divisions of zero-energy-homes that will increase in value each year and in doing so give South Carolina a better way to live.
In South Carolina it is vested interests not wanting to change.
Anybody who says you can’t change the state government is wrong. If you have ideals that you want to live up to, you better be part of the solution and not just part of the griping and protesting. Roll up your sleeves and tell South Carolina State Politicians to allow true net metering rules so we can join the renewable energy revolution and live a better life ….
Santee Cooper is not going to change without public political pressure!
Only public political pressure can force them to allow you to use renewable energy and build a zero-energy-house! Net metering is the right cause, 40 states and hundreds of utilities have already joined this renewable energy revolution. It’s time South Carolina joined in!!
Home owners, businesses, school districts, cities, and counties can not reduce costs or participate in the green power revolution without net metering.
Without public pressure put on your Governor and Santee Cooper we will never get true net metering rules.
Start the process, send Governor Mark Sanford an e-mail today!!!
